Join the Georgina Centre for Arts & Culture as we celebrate the life and work of master printmaker, Sergei Firer, a long time Keswick resident. Georgina’s own Ron Baird will be featured along with regional artists working in this traditional and time-honoured practice. Selections from the GCAC Permanent Collection will round out this incredible exhibition.
The art of the print has many processes to explore from etching and engraving, stonecuts and woodcuts, to lithography and screen printing. Each is a fascinating technique to understand with amazing results on paper or fabric. The Printmakers Festival will provide gallery guests and visitors a chance to see the work of Sergei Firer who was trained in Russia and has prints in the Art Museum of Pushkin in Moscow and major collections worldwide. For new collectors, a print is a multiple, each original has an edition that is usually small due to the eventual wear on the plate or stone. Purchasing a print is a great way to start your art collection and we know you will find a delightful piece in this exhibition to take home and enjoy for years. You will come away from this show with a deeper appreciation of the skills of these artists and the time and commitment they make for each creation. Our artist in residence for October, JJ Martyn, is a trained printmaker and will offer a workshop on Saturday and Sunday October 28th and 29th from 10am – 1pm for anyone interested in an introductory printmaking experience.
The Printmakers Festival runs from October 26th – November 26th. Mark your calendars for Thursday, November 9th from 6pm – 8pm for the Printmakers Festival Exhibition Reception.
Come see. Come learn!
