GCAC Permanent Collection Exhibition
August 31 - October 22
The GCAC will be displaying the Permanent Collection!
The Board of Directors and staff would like to extend you a personal invitation to attend the upcoming exhibition of The Georgina Centre for Arts & Culture Permanent Collection.
To have a collection of relevant art of the scale and scope as that of the Georgina Centre for Arts & Culture’s permanent collection is an extraordinary treasure for the region of York. It is the result of a commitment by generous donors to allow the next generation of curious people the ability to come to a beautiful space in Sutton, and see art that is of the calibre that one finds in Toronto or New York.
This exhibition will afford residents and guests, intrepid appreciators and collectors, students of all ages and stages, and those who have not yet set foot in the gallery, a chance to enjoy an uplifting art experience for the months of September and October.
The Permanent Collection will feature paintings by Albert Chiarandini, an Italian Canadian contemporary of the Group of Seven and Bruce Smith, his protégé and donor of the Chiarandini and York Wilson artwork. Gorgeous paintings by Norval Morrisseau and Travis Shilling, along with sculpture by David Ruben Piqtoukum, Gerald Gladstone and others, will delight all guests. Vintage photography by Tom Zsolt of Georgina locales and people will also be on view.
The GCAC Permanent Collection exhibition runs from August 31st to October 22nd. The Opening Reception is Thursday, September 7th from 6 – 8pm. A Curator’s Walk and Talk will take place on Sunday, September 3rd and Sunday, October 15th from 12 – 2pm. Private tours will be available for groups of students or others interested in seeing the exhibition. Please contact the gallery to book a time.
Not since 2015 have these masterful works of art been on display as a collective. It is an honour and a privilege to give them space again for you to appreciate. It is your gallery. Come see!
